First time tobacco grower

For the past few years I've been progressively expanding my garden and trying out new things. This year I thought I'd try to grow my own tobacco with taxes as high as they are now. For me, the price of a 150g can of American Spirit went from $14 to $35. The price of a seed pack was about $3 which contained around 100 seeds. One plant can average 3-6 ounces of tobacco which is about the same as a can. The equates to about 0.03 cents per can of tobacco (not counting fertilizer/watering/time/etc). You just can't beat those prices.

So far the process has been slow. I started the seeds in the first week of April but they are still only 1/4" tall. I think they are getting enough sunshine and water. Some have died, some never germinated, and some appear to be stuck in this 1/4" limbo. What could I be doing wrong?

good thinking!

I like your style! That is crazy price increase, I am surprised more people are not growing their own tobacco. Are you guys growing cucumbers? I am, but I am not sure which are the cukes and which are the weeds. I need to check out the leaves to distinguish them. (: Can't wait for more mozzwold blogging! (niccole)

Cukes

We sure are growing cucumbers (bush type). I'll try to get some more pics of the garden up and you can compare ours to yours. What type did you plant?

And here they are:
